Course Description:
Students will explore a wide variety of art techniques,
tools, and materials. The project experiences will include
the following: drawing three-dimensional forms, drawing from observation, painting with watercolor and acrylics, ceramics, printmaking,
paper mache, paper sculpture, and oil pastel. Art history
will be discussed as it applies to the current projects.
Classroom Materials Required:
Art fee $15.00, writing utensils, eraser, color markers
Course Outline:
Figure with Rhythmic Patterns- Explore patterns and figure drawing
Value Scale with Geometric Shapes and Texture- Create a gray scale using an ebony pencil. Explore drawing with shading and texture as a focus
Cubistic Scissors- Draw and shade scissors using the cubist style
Learn about Pablo Picasso and George Braque
Watercolor Landscape- Learn about watercolors and experiment with a variety of techniques
Pop Art Papier Mache’- Observe the work of Andy Warhol, create a 3D version of a consumer product of choice
Tree Roots w/ India Ink- Explore the creativity of Surrealism within twisting roots, cross-hatching, watercolors, and branching in this drawing
Color wheel- Experiment with watercolor paints by designing a unique color wheel. Color mixing will be a large component.
Tissue Paper Mandala- Create a radial design to be displayed in the windows of SFHS
Two-Point Perspective Drawing- Draw a city using perspective and low-relief properties
Watercolor Painting- Experiment with techniques in watercolor to create an Impressionistic landscape painting
Silhouette Acrylic Painting- Learn about acrylic painting and its unique qualities while creating a silhouette landscape
Sgraffito Scratchboard- Explore scratch art with an animal theme. Scratch the surface off to reveal the color beneath using texture as a dominant element
Ceramics- Two projects will be presented that use various hand-building clay techniques. Students will choose one project to complete. Glazes will be applied for color and shine.
Student Evaluation:
Quarter grades: Projects 90%, Daily Participation 5%, Introductory Exercises 5%

Ask for help or clarification when needed
Tardy Policy:
Students tardy to class (unexcused) are missing valuable instruction time. After 5 tardies, one participation point will be deducted
Absent Policy:
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out the missed information. The number of days from class is the amount of time you have to complete the material missed with full credit.
Late Work:
Late work is accepted with 10 points off. More will be deducted the later it is turned in to the instructor.
