Course Description:

In Art Studio, the students work independently to complete two projects and two typed reports per quarter. This course encourages further exploration of painting, ceramics, and/or drawing while learning about various artists.

Classroom Materials Required:

Art fee $15.00, writing utensils, eraser, pocket folder

Course Outline:

Students will complete two major projects and two artist reports/posters per quarter.  All projects and artist choices need the consent of the instructor.

Student Evaluation 

Quarter grades: Projects 70%, Daily Participation 5%, Artist Research 25%

Classroom Rules and Expectations:

Come to class on time and be prepared to learn and participate

Complete all assignments to the best of your ability

Treat everyone with dignity and respect

Ask for help or clarification when needed

Tardy Policy:

Students tardy to class (unexcused) will receive two warnings, Starting with the third tardy, the student will receive an after-school detention to be served within two days.

Absent Policy:

If you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out the missed information.  The number of days from class is the amount of time you have to complete the material missed with full credit.

Late Work:

Late work is accepted with 10 points off.  More will be deducted the later it is turned in to the instructor.

Requirements for Artist Poster

(6 pt each)

Factual Points

ÿ       Country of Origin

ÿ       Years living

ÿ       Description of work/style (what makes his/her work unique?)

ÿ       Describe in detail, a well-known piece

ÿ       Media used (oil paint, bronze, acrylic)

ÿ       Quote (about the artist or by the artist)

ÿ       Describe how the artist used line, color, shape/form, and  texture

Visual Elements

ÿ       Title reflects the artist’s style or subject matter

ÿ       Visually dramatic and bold

ÿ       All lettering is bold, easy to read, neat

Quality of Writing 

ÿ       Correct punctuation and capitalization

ÿ       No spelling errors

ÿ       All information is accurate

ÿ       Writing is clear and concise 

Other

ÿ       Student’s name is on the poster (4 pt)

ÿ       Source list on the back

ÿ       Three examples of artwork with the title (in italics) and year 

Important:

Use only your own words unless it is a quote!!!! Plagiarizing will earn a failing grade!

Requirements for Artist Report

(Approximately 6 pt each)

Intro Paragraph 

ÿ       Country of Origin

ÿ       Years living

ÿ       General description of work/style

Body Paragraphs (3) 

ÿ       Details about the artist’s work

ÿ       How did the artist use line, color, shape/form, and texture in a unique way?

ÿ       Media used (oil paint, acrylic, bronze, glass, etc)

ÿ       Quote by the artist or about the artist

ÿ       Describe one important piece

Conclusion

ÿ       Why did you choose this artist

ÿ       What do you like and/or dislike about his work

ÿ       Specific examples, not generalizations to support the opinion

Other

ÿ       Good Punctuation and capitalization (under 6 errors)

ÿ       Writing is clear and organized

ÿ       Few spelling errors (under 6 errors)

ÿ       Example of one or more pieces of artwork with the title (in italics) and year

ÿ       Source list
