Course Description:

The role of the Health Education program is to inform and educate individuals to have knowledge, skills, and motivation to assure responsible roles in personal, family, and community health. The physical, social, emotional, and intellectual dimensions of each person will be explored in the Health education curriculum.

UNIT 1: WELLNESS and NUTRITION

UNIT 2: LIFELONG ACTIVITY

UNIT 3 & 4: NON-INFECTIOUS DISEASES: CARDIO-VASCULAR

 DISEASES AND CANCER

UNIT 5: INFECTIOUS DISEASES

UNIT 6: MENTAL and EMOTIONAL HEALTH

UNIT 7: SUBSTANCE USE and ABUSE

UNIT 8: LIFE EDUCATION

General Expectations:

Students enrolled in classes at St. Francis High School are expected to:

  • Come to class on time and prepared to engage in the learning process

  • Complete all assignments to the best of their ability

  • Treat everyone with dignity and respect at all times

Ask for help or clarification when needed


Required Materials:

  • Spiral Notebook or 3-ring binder with loose-leaf paper.

  • Pocket folder

  • Pencil or pen

Anything else that you would need to help be more successful and organized in this class

Grading Scale:

A  100 - 93

B+  89 - 88

C+  79 - 78

D+  69 - 68

F 59 and below

A - 92 - 90

B    87 - 83

C    77 - 73

Semester Grade Weights:

1st Quarter = 40%, 2nd Quarter = 40%, Semester Exam = 20%

3rd Quarter = 40%, 4th Quarter = 40%, Semester Exam = 20%

    Late Work Policy:

     

    • You are expected to do all assigned work to the best of your ability and do it on time.

    • All homework, tests, and quizzes must be made up within one week of the previous unit test taken.

    Absence & Tardiness :

    (Refer to your Student Agenda for more information.)

    Generally, if you are absent (not truant), on the day an assignment is given, you will have one extra day to complete the assignment. If you are absent the day an assignment is due, you will turn in the assignment the day you return.

    NOTE: When you are absent, it is your responsibility to find out what you missed and what you need to make up. This includes getting handouts, copying notes from a classmate, and rescheduling tests and quizzes.

    Cell Phone Policy

    Cell phones are NOT ALLOWED in PE class at ANY TIME as per district policy.  If you are caught with your phone, you‘ll be asked to turn it in or you will be sent to the office.  THERE WILL BE NO CELL PHONES IN THE LOCKER ROOM AT ANY TIME PER STATE LAW.  Possible suspensions can happen if you do not cooperate.
