Course Description:

Physical Education is an important participation course that teaches and helps students to become more active and therefore healthier. You will learn many different activities that you will be able to use past your high school career which will help you maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Course/Unit Outline:

1st quarter: Volleyball, Softball, Football, Soccer

2nd quarter: Pickleball, Weight Training, Basketball, Handball/Racquetball, 4 Square

3rd quarter: 4 Square, Badminton, Archery, Weight Training, Handball/Racquetball

4th quarter: Dance, Pickleball, Gym Games, Track& Field, Softball

** All units are subject to change depending on the weather

At the end of each unit, there is a week of fitness testing that you will be graded on.

General Expectations:

Students enrolled in classes at St. Francis High School are expected to:

  • Come to class on time and prepared to engage in the learning process

  • Complete all assignments to the best of their ability

  • Treat everyone with dignity and respect at all times

  • Ask for help or clarification when needed

Required Materials:

School Physical Education Uniform purchased through the school is required.

Payment options are available if you're unable to afford one.

Tennis shoes are the only shoes that are allowed in class, no matter if it is a half or full day.

Boots, flip-flops, heels, and shoes that leave marks on the floor will not be allowed.

Cell Phone Policy 

Cell phones are NOT ALLOWED in PE class at ANY TIME as per district policy. THERE WILL BE NO CELL PHONES IN THE LOCKER ROOM AT ANY TIME PER STATE LAW.

Hygiene Recommendations:

A towel, deodorant, and soap are highly recommended to promote good hygiene throughout the day.

Grading Scale:

A  100 - 93

B+  89 - 88

C+  79 - 78

D+  69 - 68

F 59 and below

A - 92 - 90

B    87 - 83

C    77 - 73

D    67 - 63

 

 

B -  82 - 80

C -  72 - 70

D-   62 - 60

Semester Grade Weights:

1st Quarter = 40%, 2nd Quarter = 40%, Semester Exam = 20%

3rd Quarter = 40%, 4th Quarter = 40%, Semester Exam = 20%

Locker Room:

  • Each student receives a gym locker & school-issued lock

  • The locker is for storage of phy ed items, not storage for books, backpacks, etc...

  • If your lock is lost or damaged you will be required to purchase a replacement lock from the office for $15.00

  • You must remain in your assigned locker

  • Only students currently enrolled in a phy ed class will be assigned a locker

  • The locker room will be locked during class time and no one will be admitted

Absence & Tardiness Policy:

If you have an excused absence, you are required to make up the missed class time within one week after completion of the unit. You need to communicate with your teacher to make up for absences. If you do not make up an absence, it will be recorded as a "0" for the day.

Medical Excuses also are required to be made up in order for you to earn a proper grade. Discuss specifics with your teacher.

**Parent excuses are only good for 3 days and then a physician's excuse is required.

All students must be in the locker room when the bell rings or they will be considered tardy. They must also report to the gymnasium promptly or they will be considered tardy. Being tardy at any time will result in a loss of points for each occurrence.

Point Scale

Each day a student receives a maximum of 20 pts., 5 points for wearing a uniform, 5 points for warm up, and 10 points for participation. A student will lose 5 pts. each day for not wearing the required PE uniform. If a student does not participate or demonstrates a poor effort for warm-up, they will lose the 5 pts. Participation pts. are graded on effort. If a student tries, no matter what their athletic level is, they will receive all 10 pts.
