Course Description:
Students will explore a wide variety of sculpture techniques, tools, and materials. All projects encourage creative problem-solving with challenges unique to 3D mediums.
Classroom Materials Required:
Art fee $10.00, writing utensils, eraser
Note: Make checks out to SFSD, pay in the office, or pay online
Student Evaluation:
Quarter grades: Projects 60%, Daily Participation 20%, introductory exercises 20%

Classroom Rules and Expectations:
Come to class on time and be prepared to learn and participate
Clean up your work area daily
Complete all assignments to the best of your ability
Treat everyone with dignity and respect
Ask for help or clarification when needed
Tardy Policy: Students tardy to class (unexcused) will receive a loss of participation points after the 10th tardy, one point off for every 5 tardies.
Absent Policy:
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to research/request the missed information. The number of days from class is the amount of time you have to complete the material missed with full credit
Late Work:
Late work is accepted with 10 points off. Additional points will be deducted, the later it is turned in to the instructor.
Extra Credit:
Extra credit points will be added to cooperation/participation grade, but only if all previous projects have been completed
Projects this semester include:
1. Paper Manipulation- using various forms of folding, scoring, and curling paper; a narrative image will be constructed in low relief
2. Woven basket– after learning about the history of a traditional woven basket, students will create their own basket using coiling rope, feathers, beads, and yarn
3. Plaster Masks- use plaster strips to create a mask with a theme of your choice
4. Clay – choose an option from below:
i. Use clay to model a recognizable animal with emphasis on texture, which must be able to stand on its own
ii. create one mug and one cylinder on the potter’s wheel
iii. handbuild a set of four mugs that share a theme
5. Metal Repousse- use a thin sheet of aluminum to make a decorative design using your initial. The texture will be a strong visual element in his project
6. Paper Mache’- create a glorious gargoyle after researching the history behind these architectural sculptures
7. Research several famous sculptors, and create your own 3D piece by combining two or more styles/subjects of the artist you have chosen. Be able to recognize several well-known artists and their work by the end of the project
