Meet Ms. Korpela
Education: I received my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in 2007. I have continued to take classes through UWM and look forward to continuing my education throughout my teaching career.
Experience: I began working at Willow Glen in 2007 running the School Age Program through the YMCA and working as a paraprofessional. For 4 years, I supported special ed students in all grades and subjects. In 2011 I became a part of the third grade team! I have a passion for integrating technology, core values, and a love of learning throughout every subject area.
Interests: If I'm not in the classroom you can probably find me at the gym. I began studying martial arts and yoga in college and continue to practice almost daily. In 2010, I received my yoga teaching certification in Mexico. Many of my recently past summers have been focused on traveling the world to train, compete, and coach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. In 2018, I earned my black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. During the school year, I love balancing teaching with training and coaching at MMA gyms. Otherwise, come summer, I'm out camping, hiking, and biking.
Mission: I aspire to create an active learning environment where students can grow both academically and socially. I strive to maintain an atmosphere where students and families feel respected and valued. Please feel free to stop in, email, or call me as needed.
